Melissa and Joel - Saint John Engagement Photography

This is one more engagement session from my trip to Saint John. When Melissa and I were first e-mailing back and forth about their wedding photography she asked if it would be okay if the engagement session included some pictures of them canoeing on Lily Lake in Rockwood Park. I replied something along the lines of, 'That would be great!' Immediately, I had this weird mix of looking forward to a really unique session and horrible visions of pulling a wet, angry couple out of the lake after they capsized (probably while doing something I had asked them to do for a better picture). Turns out I didn't need to be worried, even though these beautiful old Chestnuts aren't the most stable canoes, Joel could probably paddle through a hurricane. And they didn't even flinch as I asked them to go around, and around, and around to take more pictures. We finished up with some pictures in the nearby Public Gardens where we had a bit more of a chance to chat. They're a lovely couple and I'm really looking forward to their wedding, whether or not it involves a canoe. [blogshow id=4581 player=0 autoplay=0 toolbar=1]

Shannon and Jon Engagement - Yarmouth wedding photography

Shannon and Jon's wedding is coming up this weekend. We squeezed a last minute engagement session in on Saturday. These were at Sealed Landers Park  (named after one of Sherrie's ancestors and an early settler of Yarmouth) and despite the typical Yarmouth fog blowing in from the harbour it was a lot of fun. See you two on Saturday! [blogshow id=4575 player=0 autoplay=0 toolbar=1]

Erin and Adam - Saint John Engagement photography

That's right, the groom is another Adam. I'm not sure whether it makes it easier or just more confusing to have multiple grooms that share my first name. We'll have to see. I went to high school with Erin (Go Saints!) and thanks to the wonders of Facebook keeping people in touch I'm really happy to be shooting their wedding this year. We headed out to Mispec Beach for this session and then continued out to the lighthouse at Cape Spencer after a little detour that ended with a 'No Trespassing' sign. Something along the lines of 'Trespassers will be given a close up tour of the Bay'. It was a beautiful evening and I had a great time hanging out with them. Oh yeah, and taking some pictures.

Maggie and Adam - Saint John engagement / family photography

Whew, it's been a while. Sorry about that. I always think it's funny when someone refers to their site as their cobweblog but here I am blowing the dust out of the corners. I've been taking lots of pictures with lots of great people but just have been falling short on carving out time to share them with the rest of you. Here's a start at catching up. These pictures are from an engagement/family session that I did in Saint John a few weeks ago. It is always nice to have a work excuse to go home. This session was also a bit of an excuse to explore since I don't remember ever going out to Darling's Island before. We did the pictures at the covered bridge there. It was a beautiful day and I had a lot of fun. Maggie and Adam are great and I'm really looking forward to their wedding. And, just to be clear, there is no major photo doctoring, those kids are as sweet as they look. At the end of the session, Adam pointed out to me that it was an Adam that referred them to me so Adam referred Adam to Adam. Hopefully the wedding day won't be too confusing.

My Backyard and In the Gardens

This is my favourite time of year in our yard. It's a big job getting our gardens ready for summer. This year I've been replacing the wood in our raised herb and vegetable beds too. P and T were pretty excited when the dump truck arrived yesterday with the dirt and compost. P even got to press the button to dump the dirt. T immediately grabbed a shovel and started yelling, "Hurry! It's quick-setting dirt!" (We have a cute book about a family who has some quick-setting concrete delivered) It's also my favourite time of year to photograph in the garden. I like it just before the tulips burst into full colour, when the gardens are a carpet of green (and the weeds aren't at full strength). I'm sure the neighbours think I'm nuts when they look out and see me crawling around on my belly in my old bright red raincoat. I'm also involved with another garden project right now. It's a show at the Yarmouth Branch of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia that is called 'In the Gardens'. Yarmouth Garden Club members  have been teamed up with a writer, a painter, and a photographer who each create a work based on that garden. I had the opportunity to work in Judy and Earl Raynard's garden on the Tusket river in Raynardton. It's an absolutely gorgeous spot with lots of history. I'll post some of my shots from there closer to the opening of the show. The works are all going to be on display in the community room from June 13th until July 27th. There will be a reception on June 20th from 5-7pm. [blogshow id=454e player=0 autoplay=0 toolbar=0]
