About me
I’m a photographer based in beautiful Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
I shoot portraits and weddings as well as exploring fine art photography. This is where I blog about photography-related things that I’ve been doing or thinking about.
When I am out shooting I try to make images, not just take pictures. Creative photography is a difficult medium because at its root, photography is not a creative process. The camera simply mechanically records the light it is pointed at. The creativity rests with the photographer making choices before, during, and after shooting. Those choices are what can elevate the level of the picture from simple capture to image.
I am continually inspired by photography and its rich and relatively short history. I love reading biographies of past photographers to see how the camera affected their lives. I’m also fascinated by the relationship between the technology and the resulting image, how our tastes seem to change with and rebel against technological advances. I love the way that the accessibility of digital photography has caused a new explosion of images. I can’t wait to see the way it is used in the future.
