Our cherry tree is opening a bit earlier than usual this year. The chair is a new addition. It should soon be joined by a picnic table. If you feel like having some tea in a beautiful spot, drop me note.

Victoria Day weekend trip to Saint John 19 May 2009

Saint John 26

I was able to take Victoria Day weekend as a trip to Saint John. Taking advantage of the free babysitting (aka grandparents) and the chauffeur (aka big brother) I was able to get a few more pics to add to my Saint John series. Saturday morning I multitasked and got some shots while at the Cherry Brook Zoo (now with mini-golf!). That night we went up to Fort Howe and then wandered around a bit uptown. I shoot primarily Through the Viewfinder there because I find that the end result mirrors both the feel of the city and my feelings about the city. Maybe it’s just because I’ve lived away for so long that I get all nostalgic when I go back. I don’t think that’s actually it, though, because the city’s flaws are also more apparent on returning. In any case, I always find it visually inspiring.

Annie Leibovitz At Work 6 May 2009

Annie Leibovitz 'At Work'

Annie Leibovitz At Work

Sherrie gave me the book Annie Leibovitz at Work for my birthday. I enjoy photography books in general but I love reading what a photographer has to say about their own life and work. The text for this one is based on conversations that Leibovitz had with the editor Sharon Delano. It maintains that conversational tone, which makes for a nice reading pace. A lot of the stories go along with photos she made of celebrities but the ones that I found really interesting were the ones that were included of her family. Overall, I found it a really enjoyable read and one that I’ll probably end up coming back to.
