Denise and Curt 16 August 2010

Congratulations Denise and Curt! A few weeks ago I tagged along and shot second for Suzanne at their wedding in Barrington. Suzanne’s a great photographer and it was fun seeing how she does a wedding. Huge thanks to Denise and Curt too for not minding me being there. Shooting second to someone else is an interesting challenge. My main goals were to stay out of the way and complement instead of copy Suzanne’s coverage. Even though the impending weather forced the ceremony and reception inside, the rain held off long enough to do the pictures outside.

camera review for toycamera.com 10 March 2010

“There are a few things about composing with the Holga 120TLR that I found tricky at first but quickly became fun because of their difference from my regular shooting. The viewfinder image is circular, which is a conceptual leap for someone used to composing with either square or rectangular viewfinders. If you want an approximate experience, look through a toilet paper roll held out a few inches away from your eye.”

This is part of a review I wrote of the Holga 120TLR for toycamera.com. You can check out the rest and see more sample shots over on their site.

Southern NS Bridal and Prom show 2 March 2010

I did my first wedding show on the weekend and it went really well. It was organized by Ariane of Enaira Marketing. I had a great time talking with the people who came through and meeting lots of other vendors. I took along some of my old cameras and explained Through the Viewfinder many times through the day. A lot of people really like the look of TtV and went through a bit of a eureka moment when they looked through my contraption. I had a couple of sample albums with me that got flipped through a lot. I think the album is really key to show prospective clients because it gives them a real sense of how my work follows the story of their day.

Suzanne D’Entremont and Clufton Saulnier were a couple other photographers showing their work. They both are very talented and you should check out their sites. Suzanne kindly passed along the images of me (and my bad posture) at my space and I’m going to be shooting second for Clifton for a wedding in May. I shared a corner with Rosie and Dave from Rosie’s Floral & Wedding Rentals. They’re really nice people and I enjoyed chatting with them during downtimes. Even though I didn’t get to try the samples, I heard lots of raving over Lena’s cakes. Her company is i Build Cakes and her work is gorgeous. The two that I’m chatting with in the pictures are Laura and Sharon from Making Memories. A lot of people made a beeline to look through the dress samples they had brought along. All in all it was really worthwhile and I’m looking forward to next year.

new blog layout 9 January 2010

icy-grass

This is a winter shot from 2008 to test my new blog layout. I wanted to keep it nice and simple but make it so I could include larger images. Since this is all about photography, I wanted to be able to highlight the pictures more.
