This wall of ice and snow runs the length of the beach in Chegoggin. It varies in height but is probably close to fifteen feet at some points. It’s full of beach stuff: seaweed, sand, and washed up debris. This line of icicles also spans the beach, created from the last high tide. It feels so permanent to stand next to but it will all be gone soon.
I was able to get out shooting this morning. This was the first picture I took. I knew as soon as the shutter released that it would be my favourite for the day. I shot for an hour or more afterward but I was right.
I’m currently reading ‘Photography Speaks‘. It’s a quick overview of 150 of the important photographers since photography’s birth. Each entry has a short bio, one representative shot, and a selection from something that the photographer wrote on the subject of photography. Even though it sounds really encyclopedic, it’s a really interesting read. I find it interesting how many of the issues are the same today as when photography first began. I’m just coming to some of the early abstract photographers. That’s what this image pays homage to today. Fun stuff.
I’m very happy that March is just over a week away. The weather we’ve been getting has been keeping me from getting out shooting much. I have a bucket full of ideas that need to be explored. One of them is trying to rig up one of my old cameras to actually shoot some film again. I haven’t shot film in over a year. I also have decided to make a pinhole camera this year. That might be a good project to keep me busy until I can get outside shooting again more regularly.
Last week I ordered my first canvas print from canvascanada.ca. I was really impressed. It was a Through the Viewfinder image so the textured surface works really well. Without question I’ll be getting more printed through them.
I’ve seen a proof of my showcase in Photosho. It looks great. I can’t wait to see it in print. If you haven’t already, you really should pre-order a copy. Or two. Or three.
Taken yesterday for World TtV Day. There were no celebrations going on here as I was sick in bed all day recovering from the flu. I managed to take a couple of snaps while lying in bed. I’m feeling quite a bit better today though.
My second Kodak Duaflex IV arrived yesterday. Just in time for World TtV Day. I was playing around a bit with it today to see how the distortion differs from my first one. It seems like the viewfinder is a bit more clear on this one. I was originally thinking about dismantling this one for another project but I think I might demolish my first one instead.
