I came home to my first issue of the new JPG magazine. Sherrie had given me a copy of one of their older issues for my birthday. That was back when they were print on demand from Lulu. It was okay then but lulu really isn’t designed for photography. JPG just launched as a regular subscription magazine. The magazine itself though is far from regular. I was really impressed by the quality of both the contributions and the magazine itself. I’m a very happy subscriber. Hopefully someday I’ll be a very happy contributer.

We arrived back in Yarmouth today after spending Christmas with my parents in Saint John. It was really nice to have both planned and unexpected meetings with friends. Traveling and visiting wears me out though and I’m pretty tired tonight.
I’m not really big on the gifts thing at Christmas. I love making/giving gifts and seeing reactions but I could really care less if I receive anything (no really, its true). There are a couple of things though that I’m really happy to have received this year. One is a copy of the PostSecret book. I think that I really appreciate it because I didn’t really know how much I wanted to have a look at it until I opened it. It’s fantastic. The other thing is a map book of Nova Scotia. It should be very helpful in scouting out potential shooting spots.

The Irvings somehow managed to infiltrate my dreams last night. Just before I woke up I was talking to an Irving rep and he was telling me about having distribution through every seller in the whole world. He was going on about how there wasn’t a single distributor who didn’t sell Irving oil. I think some subconscious wires got crossed and one of the Irvings probably ended up with the dream that I was really supposed to be having while I got one of theirs. He’s probably pretty confused this morning about having dreamt about a bunch of camera gear.

This post is appropriate for one of the last days of the year. This picture gets me thinking about a project that I have had floating around in my head for a long time. Years. I think I might now be able to get started on it. It’s an exciting possibility.

Merry Christmas! We had a lovely Christmas dinner this afternoon. These are two pictures from today. The first is the cranberries at the beginning of their transformation into sauce and the second is the end result. Well, a little bit of the end result down in the left corner with the really cool dish dominating the frame. I’ve always been fascinated with this dish. It’s one of those ones that only comes out on special occasions (usually those involving cranberry sauce). It is the dish and a little glass spoon. One of the things that I associate with Christmas. It’s funny what things stick in your mind.

Even though it’s not a white Christmas (or Decemberween if you prefer) here, I hope you have a good one.

I went back to the Chebogue Meadows trail this past week. This time I had my Through the Viewfinder camera with me too so I was able to get some nice snowy trail TTV shots. I walked the whole trail this time. It’s a really nice circuit, with some informative signs along the way. I liked the ones talking about wildlife and plant species. I wasn’t too keen on the ones extolling the virtues of clear-cutting.

I’ve driven by this view dozens of times. Each time I think to myself, “I bet that’s one of those solitary trees in the middle of a field.” So yesterday I actually decided to go investigate. Turns out I was wrong. The tree actually sits almost on the beach. You can’t include the trunk in the shot without the background getting all cluttered with scrub and beach and ocean and wharf. So I took this shot from the vantage that maintains my illusion.

I’m sure there’s a reason, but I have no idea why this is called the bug light. Anyone know?
